SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

Jeff Engel has over fourteen years experience in the development of endothermic fuel systems used in high speed aircraft. He has extensive experience in reactor design and analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer in high heat flux environments. He also is well-experienced in the design, construction, and operation of automated laboratory systems used to evaluate catalysts and fuel additives in a wide variety of applications, including high pressure and temperature environments encountered in high speed aircraft fuel systems.

 

MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS       

September 2010 to Present: Senior Engineer, Reaction Systems LLC, Golden, CO

    • Contributing to an Air Force project in the design and construction of a catalytic N2O decomposition reactor for a high speed aircraft engine ignition system.
    • Contributing to a DOE project in the design and construction of an automated test apparatus used to develop a high efficiency hydrogen separation process.

     

February 1996 to August 2010: Senior Engineer, TDA Research Inc., Wheat Ridge, CO

    • Lead engineer on a Navy project to design, construct and test a 2-D ramjet dump combustor used to determine the effect of fuel soluble nano-catalysts on the combustion properties of several military turbine fuels.
    • Lead engineer on an Air Force project to determine the combustion effects of wall mounted catalyst on the flame-holding structures in turbine engine augmenters using a v-gutter as the flame holder in a 2-D ramjet combustor.
    • Contributed to the development of soluble nano-catalysts for high performance fuels.
    • Contributed to the development of a wall mounted, thermally stable high temperature catalyst for methane reforming to improve combustion and increase heat sink capacity.
    • Lead engineer on NASA Phase I & II project that developed a low temperature coke removal process from high speed aircraft fuel heat exchangers.
    • Contributed to development of fuel additives to prevent filamentous coke formation in fuel cracking reactors.
    • Key contributions and lead engineer on a NASA project to develop low temperature oxidation process for the conversion of solid waste streams generated during long term space missions into carbon dioxide and water.
    • Lead engineer on design, fabrication and testing of a high temperature, high pressure automated test apparatus to accurately measure the heat sink capacities of wide cut turbine fuels (JP-7, JP-8, etc.).
    • Contributed to design and fabrication of mechanical components to line endothermic fuel reactors with protective barrier against filamentous coke formation.
    • Contributed to design and fabrication of high temperature, high pressure transient heat exchanger.
